6 Learnable Habits that Will Help You Save Money FAST
1. Save $5 per day by packing your lunch instead of eating out
Saving money is a lot easier than most people think. In fact, there are many simple things that you can do to save money on a daily basis. One of the easiest ways to save money is to pack your lunch instead of eating out. If you pack your lunch every day, you can save $5 per day – or $25 per week!
There are many different ways to pack a lunch, and you can easily customize it to fit your needs. Some of my favourite lunches to pack are sandwiches, salads, and leftovers. You can also pack snacks, such as fruit, nuts, and granola bars, to help you stay energized throughout the day.
2. Cut back on coffee expenses by brewing your own
Another way to save money is by cutting back on coffee expenses. Many people spend $100 or more per month, and that’s a lot of money! There are many ways you can cut back on your daily caffeine fix – for example, brew your own instead of buying it at Starbucks. You can also make iced coffees and lattes at home – it’s much cheaper than buying them from a coffee shop.
There are many different ways to brew your own, including French Press or Keurig. You can also save money by choosing the best times of day for you to drink coffee (i.e., not during meals).
3. Use a shopping list to avoid impulse purchases
One of the most cost-effective methods to save money is to make a shopping list. A shopping list is an effective way to avoid impulse purchases and stick with the items that you need on your grocery list.
When creating your shopping list, try to be specific as possible by item name and quantity. This will help you stay focused on what you need while grocery shopping and avoid spending money on unnecessary items. Additionally, always bring the list with you when going out to shop so that you won’t forget anything.
To make the most of your shopping list, try to plan your meals for the week ahead of time and include the ingredients you’ll need on your list. This will help you stay on track with your grocery budget and avoid buying duplicate items. Additionally, it’s a good idea to create a stockpile of pantry staples such as grains, flour, sugar and cooking oil to avoid paying high prices when these items are out of stock.
4. Change the way you look at money – don’t spend it on things that aren’t important
Don’t spend money on things that aren’t important to you – instead, save it for things that are. This might be difficult at first, but with time and practice, it’ll become easier and easier.
To practise this habit, take a look at your monthly budget and find areas where you can cut back, even just a little bit. For example, if you’re spending $20 on coffee every single day, try to cut back and only spend it twice or three times per week instead of seven days out of the week.

5. Get rid of cable and use Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime for entertainment
Have you ever thought about how much money you spend on cable? For many people, just the cost of their basic cable package doesn’t even approach $100, but when you add in all the upgrades and packages that are marketed to increase your “entertainment” options, it can get up to $200 or more every month! That is a lot of money that could be put to better use. And if you’re paying for these monthly expenses with a credit card at 18% interest per year, you’re earning only 1.5% back on your money. You would need an extra $1200-per-year income just to cover the interest charges!
If you don’t want to give up your entertainment options, but you also want to save as much money as possible, the best solution is to keep your cable and sign up for streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. You can still watch all of your favourite shows – just without having a giant bill every month!
6. Save money by cooking your own meals throughout the week
Another way to save money is to cook and prepare all of your meals ahead of time for the entire week. This might seem like a lot of work, but it’s actually very easy once you get into a routine with it.
To develop this habit, try making several dinners on Sunday afternoons or Monday evenings. Then, in separate containers, pack each of those dinners and label them according to the day of the week they must be consumed (i.e., Sunday, Monday, etc.). This way you’ll always have seven nutritious meals available for each weekday!
If you don’t want to cook for an entire week, you can also try cooking for just two or three days at a time. This will still help you save money and eat healthier meals than if you were to purchase food from a restaurant or fast-food chain.
Plus, when you cook your own meals, you’ll know exactly what’s in them and how many calories they contain – something that isn’t always clear when you eat out.
There are a lot of different ways to save money, and the best way to find out what works for you is to experiment. Try out different methods and see what works best for you.
